January can be a particularly difficult time for those recovering from mental health illness. The days are long are long and dark, which can have a profound affect on mood. In order to lifts spirits and create a new experience, members of staff arranged a day out for our services users at RHS Garden Wisley
Members of staff accompanied a group to visit the world famous horticulture centre to take in the peaceful scenery and explore the manicured grounds.
As part of the ongoing rehabilitation program service users were supported to use the Shuttle Bus service which goes directly to Wisley Gardens from Woking Train Station every hour.
This gave service users the opportunity to understand more about ways they can independently access this venue in time to come.
There has been a significant amount of research showing the close relationship between gardening based activities and improved wellbeing/mental health.
Cherrytrees Care continues to promote service users to involvement in it's therapeutic horticulture club. With the benefit of having our own green house, service users can enjoy green fingered activities all year round. Staff have observed the positive uplift that it has on each individuals outlook on life.
"We were pleased to see the level of interest has grown to the extent where service users had expressed the wish to make the trip to Wisley".
We are all eagerly awaiting the arrival of spring to see the Cherrytrees Care garden in full bloom.
